Santa Cruz Spanish School has developed from many years of experience. We make constant efforts to improve the skill of our students in regard to their command of the Spanish language. At each of the levels offered we focus on all the important elements of language acquisition; reading, writing, vocabulary development, pronunciation, and (most importantly) the art of speaking as a Spanish speaker.
Though we offer structure, we are always ready to accommodate student´s particular needs and desires. Our teachers are ready to help if a student feels the need to spend more time on any phase of the learning process. We normally seek your feedback through a carefully designed questionnaire at the end of the course. Please share with us any idea or experience so we can improve our School System.

Activities
If you know some of the basics of Spanish, but are not fluent, we'll help you form some simple sentences and practice conversational Spanish and learn new vocabulary in short one hour classes. Then the best place to practice Spanish is outside the classroom around the Lake Atitlan area as well as visits to other highlights in the region. We'll apply the short cuts we know to get you speaking and help you to apply your skills in real life activities.
Weekend Spanish Study (Tour)
Lake Atitlan: Each morning after breakfast, we'll focus on 2 hours of Spanish with useful phrases, vocabulary and structure. Then we'll embark to Santiago Atitlan and San Juan la Laguna, the villages described below.
A. Santiago Atitlan is one of the most artistic and rich villages on Lake Atitlan. It is placed on the slopes of two immense dormant volcanoes, Toliman,and Atitlan. To the West is volcano San Pedro which looms to the West. Santiago Atitlan was the main capital of the Mayan Tzutujil and is rich with history.
B. San Juan la Laguna. In San Juan you will have the chance to share a few moments with the women’s weaving cooperative utilizing the traditional methods of dying thread with native plants. Also experienced will be Medicinal plant nurseries, a museum, and a brief course in traditional fishing methods.

Weekend Spanish Study (Hike)
This option lets you use and practice your Spanish while climbing El Volcán San Pedro At 3,020 meters (9908.136 ft). Our guide/instructor meets you early in the morning and we embark to the foot of San Pedro, one of the most accessible parks with amazing views of Lake Atitlan. And yes, it is a dormant volcano! We invest from three to four hours hiking to the top just in time to admire the spectacular views of Lake Atitlan. The descent is 21/2 hours. It is an incredible hiking adventure and you will continue your Spanish lessons as you hike!
Hike el Pico de Cielo. El Pico de Cielo is located at an altitude of 2,500 meters above sea level. This marvelous hike starts from Santa Cruz La Laguna. If you are staying in a different place such as Panajachel, San Marcos or San Pedro, please let us know so that our guide can meet you at the main dock in Santa Cruz. It is better to hike early in the morning; it´s fresher and also a good time to enjoy the view at sunrise with all the birds singing and greeting the new day.
Maria Linda or Laguna Seca is the name of the kaqchikel village where El Pico de Cielo is located. Maria Linda is an authentic small and poor village, isolated at the top of a mountain. It is nestled between Milpa-clad fields and the majestic mountain sides of Lake Atitlan. This is a challenging hike for inexperienced hikers and takes about two and a half hours hiking uphill. Once we reach the top of el PICO DE CIELO we will eat our snacks, rest, practise our Spanish and then visit the Village.

1. Recommended Level 2 Students and higher (recent study of basic verb conjugations, Ser and Estar); Limited to 4 per group, Minimum 2. Inquire re: Level 1 studies in Santa Cruz Spanish School before the trip.

3. If you'd like to form your own group, have a specific date in mind, or want to go for less than a week, please inquire. We may be able to accommodate your request. If you have a group of all Beginners, we'll also accommodate you.
Our students can choose to take their Spanish Courses on Lake Atitlan in one or more of the following towns: Panajachel, Santa Cruz la Laguna, Jaibalito, Tzununá, San Marcos, San Juan la Laguna, San Pedro la Laguna, Santiago Atitlan and Santa Catarina Palopo.
